Bridgemen Color Guard Has Special Connection
August 1, 2006

Performing with the Jersey Surf kids in Wildwood gave the Bridgemen a first hand look at how how hard these kids work and how dedicated they are to what they do. Kind of reminded me of another special drum corps from "back in the day”.

We knew we had a special connection to the Surf Color Guard because of Matt (Hurley). That connection became more evident when we met up with the Surf kids at Wildwood. WOW!!!! What a great bunch of kids! They were so respectful and supportive and even seemed a little intimidated by us. How could you NOT like these kids!

These days, it's tough enough being a kid. And being so young and so far away from home, we thought it would be nice to show our appreciation for what they are doing and brighten up their tour with a few goodies from some ladies who care.

The members of the Bridgemen Color Guard were asked to donate something for our "Care Package for Surf." The response was great! Candy, juice bags, puzzle books, cookies, pretzels, toys, you name it, it was pretty much donated. Even toothbrushes with toothpaste in the handle for each member.

Yes, some of us are old enough to be their mothers and maybe that's why we did what we did. We just wish we could be there to see their faces when they open those containers. The feeling that complete strangers care enough about you to do this will never be forgotten. GO SURF!!!! We Love You!!!!
